Interesting Stuff....

I can't credit whoever wrote this and I would if I could, but I am going to post it anyway. I would like to live my life like this:

Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Forget about the one's who don't. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

Words to live by......

Hi Susan! Thanks for dropping by and for your question. It's one that confuses a lot of people I think.

A vegetarian is someone who does not eat animal flesh (meat) or by-products of animal flesh such as gelatin, which is made from bones and skins of animals.

Vegans take it a step further and do not eat animal flesh or any animal by-products, such as milk, cheese, eggs, or even honey. Many vegans are also careful of refined sugar, as most sugar is processed with charred animal bones.

Both of these definitions are rather general, and every vegetarian and vegan has their own standards by which they choose to live.

If you would like to know more, there is a lot of information on the web - a plant based diet is a fantastic lifestyle choice that is growing in popularity due to environmental, ethical and health reasons. I encourage everyone who is interested to do a little research and see what it's all about.

Thanks again for your comment!

Hi again! First, I just want to say that I read some of your posts and I'm glad everything with your daughter seems to be going okay. I'll keep her and your family in my thoughts as you wait for more news.

I got my name in kind of a funny way (funny to me, anyway!). It's a nickname my oldest sister gave to me when she was making fun of the way I mix 'curse' words with 'anti-curse' words... if that makes sense? Not to be offensive (sorry if this is), but an example would be saying bum-bum hole instead of asshole, and in the same breath saying damn instead of darn. I thought it was funny, so I kept it.

As for protein, that's a common question for vegans! Many people think that vegetarians and vegans find it difficult to get enough protein, but it simply isn't true! Really, as long as calorie intakes are acceptable, it's almost impossible for vegans NOT to get enough protein. Almost everything we eat has some amount of protein, some prime examples being:

Peanut butter and other nut butters, nuts, beans and other legumes, soy milk, tempeh (a meat substitute product made from soy beans), tofu, whole grains, seitan (a meat substitute made from wheat gluten - 3oz of which contains 31 grams of protein!) and even vegetables. One cup of spinach has 5 grams of protein!

Americans in general consume too much protein, which can actually be as detrimental to your health as not enough. Too much protein actually leeches calcium from your bones! The recommended amount for women is only 47 grams a day, which is easily met by vegans who are conscious of what they are eating.

It is significantly more likely that the average meat-eater isn't getting enough fiber, fresh fruits and vegetables, than it is for a vegan to not be getting enough protein.

Sorry this comment is so long - just trying to be thorough! Thanks again for your question. As before, there is a LOT of information available online about vegetarian and vegan lifestyles if you're interested!
